Favourite thing to do in engineering: Simulation and modelling
PhD student from India
I’m a PhD student in I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre
based at University College Dublin and I’m from India. I did my masters in Germany and moved to Dublin last year. I love playing cricket, climbing and video games. I’m also on the mission to find the best Burger joint in Dublin.
Modelling of Additive Manufacturing
3D printing is the latest manufacturing technology which allows us to make complicated designs and also opens up new applications. Sometimes the parts manufactured by 3D printing can have defects and it is expensive and time-consuming to predict the cause experimentally. In my research, we use computer-aided simulations to create models that predict the source and cause of defects.
My Typical Day
Differs from day to day
What I'd do with the money
Fund for 3D printer
We normally use the WASP 3D printer for the demonstrations and it is big and clumsy to move around. If I win, it can help us fund a new FDM printer that is smaller and easier to move which we use in school and public engagement demos.
