      Hi Gillian. Thank you for your question. STEPS is an acronym ( each letter in the word stand for another word).
      S = Science
      T = Technology
      E = Engineering
      P = Programme
      S = Schools

      So it is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Programme for Schools.

      It is run by the Institute for Engineers in Ireland (IEI) and is designed to interest young people like you in doing Science and Engineering as you job. Volunteers like me visit schools and talk to the students about our job as scientists or engineers and demonstrate how interesting it is to be an Engineer. When I visit a school I talk with the students about my work and demonstrate to them some of the engineering products I sell to solve customer problems. We then have fun doing some engineering based activities. Your school can request a visit from an engineer at any time by going to the STEPS.IE website and making a request. You will not be disappointed.
